Secundus Jones
Vicar of Holy Trinity Church

From the booklet 'Saint David's Church, Ystalyfera, 1891-1991' comes the following information on Secundus Jones

James Secundus Jones, a native of Cardiganshire, was educated at St. David's College, Lampeter L Division and became a deacon in 1893 and priest in 1897. During these four years he was curate at Llangattock, followed by five years at Llanwrthwl as curate and chaplain to the Birmingham Water Corporation. He was rector at Cathedine, Bwlch, Breconshire from 1904 until 1912 when he accepted the living at Ystalyfera.

Secundus Jones served as Vicar of Ystalyfera between 1912 and 1929, and thus officiated, or was present, at many funerals and commemorative services for the fallen of the district in the First World War. The booklet, named above, goes on to describe his departure in 1929

In September 1929 the Rev Secundus Jones was appointed Vicar of St. John's Hafod Swansea and on October 4th a presentation come meeting was held at the Church hall, Mr. John Griffiths, vicars warden, presiding. The Young People's Guild gave him a silver mounted walking stick and the local churches two arm chairs and Treasury Notes. In his farewell speech he said how happy he had been in the 17 years among them. Mrs. Jones had been presented with a Silver Tea Service by the Mothers Union the previous week. The Rev J Secundus Jones died in 1941.
