Below, are the names from the Ystalyfera memorial for the First World War. Each one leads to a memorial page with full details of each individual, along with excerpts from The Labour Voice newspaper, as relevant.
In addition, we are collecting the names of fallen servicemen not listed on the Ystalyfera War Memmorial. Some of them are remembered on other local memorials, such as the Ystalyfera County School Memorial or the Saint David's Church Scouts Memorial, and others have been discovered through notices in the Llais newspaper.

VALLEY BOYS IN THE GREAT WAR
We are pleased to present our First World War project as a contribution to the Centenary of WWI
It is a document entitled: YSTALYFERA YSTRADGYNLAIS And DISTRICT 1914 -1918.
It tells of some of the things which occurred throughout those years but unlike the Fallen of the Tawe Valley, these men and women, thankfully returned home. The information has been compiled from articles printed in the Llais newspaper, with one or two references from The Cambrian Daily Leader, over the period of four years, with 1919 included where appropriate. The document has been divided into chapters, e.g. Furlough, Wounded, Recruits etc. The layout follows a diary format, although when a serviceman/woman is frequently mentioned they have been brought together under the main chapter heading, so as to keep their continuity.

Simone dreamed of becoming a showbusiness star during her nights in the air raid shelter in the garden of her home in Southall, during World War Two. After joining the A.T.S. in the war, she became part of the concert party entertaining the troops, eventually joining the Windmill Theatre.
