YSTALYFERA NOTES
Official notification has been received that Private David Davies (25) of the Brecknocks, son of the late Evan Robert Davies and Mrs. Davies, Beynon’s Row, was killed in France about a month ago. He leaves a widow and two young children, who reside with friends at Pontardawe. It appears that the official notice arrived immediately after the death of Private Davies, but on account of its being wrongly directed, was not received by the relatives until this week. The deceased was one of six brothers, together with the only brother in law, who at the outbreak of the war, enlisted the same week. Three are now in India, one in Salonika, one in France and one discharged.
Regarding his mother, in 1891 Margaret was still married to John THOMAS (Born Carmarthenshire 1831) collier with her Son: David DAVIES who was baptised in Holy Trinity Church 13/07/1897 and daughter: Mary Ann DAVIES (Born Ystalyfera 1877) who was baptised in Holy Trinity Church 13/07/1897, a worker in the Tin House and their daughter: Martha THOMAS (Born Ystalyfera 1888), baptised in Holy Trinity Church 27/10/1896. The family lived at Graig y Merched Ystalyfera.
In 1901 Margaret Thomas (Born Llandilo 1845) was a widow for the second time. She was living at 8 Beynon’s Row Godre’rgraig with her son David DAVIES (Born Ystalyfera Coal Miner Hewer) and daughter Martha Ann THOMAS

AGED GRAIG LADY
The death took place on Monday morning of Mrs. Margaret Thomas Beynon’s Row, at the age of 79. She was taken ill about six weeks ago. Mrs. Thomas had been twice married, her first husband being Mr. Evan Davies and the second, Mr, John Thomas, the latter having died 32 years ago. She leaves two married daughters, her only son, Mr. David Davies, having been killed in the Great War. The funeral took place on Thursday at Holy Trinity.
