From the Labour Voice newspaper, 27th July 1918:-
News has been received that Private Benjamin Jones, son of Mr and Mrs David Benjamin Jones, 21, Canal Terrace, has died at Mansfield, following an attack of influenza, which later developed into pneumonia. Deceased, who died on the 6th inst., was buried on the following Saturday. He joined the 9th Hussars at the outbreak of the war, was later discharged, and after rejoined the 84th L.R.B.
He leaves a widow and two young children to mourn their loss, now resident at Senghenydd, where deceased worked prior to his enlistment. He left Ystalyfera a number of years ago, but had a large number of friends in the district. He was buried with military honours.

In loving memory of Private Benjamin Jones, son of David and Mrs. Jones of 21 Canal Terrace, Ystalyfera, who died in Mansfield Camp Nottingham on 6th July 1918.
