Ystalyfera
The Wern Fawr public house, Ystalyfera is located on Wern Road, close to Wern Chapel as you go up the hill on the main road of many names, starting with Commercial Street at the bottom.
An old photograph, showing the Wern Fawr set further back from the road, before the road was widened. The caption on the photograph refers to the murder in Pantteg in 1850 of Morgan Lewis, which began with a fight outside the Wern Fawr Inn.

This includes a collection of locally-manufactured bricks, now situated beneath one of the seating benches in the bar.

The Wern Fawr has a beer garden on several levels to the side and rear of the pub. During the 2020 Pandemic, this was extensively reworked and reopened for business with extra seating, gravel beds, and decorations.
