Upper Ystalyfera
The Ystalyfera Arms is located towards the top of Ystalyfera, where Wern Road becomes Cyfyng Road. It is still a going concern under the name of The Flying Pig.

In December 1915 the Ystalyfera Arms was granted permission to carry out alterations. The clincher for allowing this seemed to be that these alterations would NOT increase the capacity of the public house.

YSTALYFERA ARMS ALTERATION
Mr Picton Evans asked the Bench to approve of plans for proposed alterations to the Ystalyfera Arms Ystalyfera.
Superintendent Letheran offered no objection, as the rooms at present were very low. The place was kept very clean and the alterations would not increase the drinking facilities.
The Bench approved of the alterations.

The Labour Voice newspaper for 19th February 1916 records that the license for the Ystalyfera Arms was transferred to Fred John McLeary.
The South Wales Voice newspaper for 17th February 1940 records that the license was transferred from Montague Passmore, thus:-
LICENCE TRANSFERRED
Last Friday at the Pontardawe Police Court, the licence of the Ystalyfera Arms was transferred from Mr Montague Passmore to Mr W J Morgan Brecon Road Ystradgynlais
As above, the South Wales Voice newspaper for 17th February 1940 records that the license was transferred to Mr W J Morgan of Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais.
The Llais newspaper had always included a round-up of happenings at local inns and public houses.
